Facing Uncertainty with Peace

This year really exposed my problem with uncertainty. I've come to understand I struggle with this because what it really is, is lack of control. When I have plan, I feel more in control of my situation. When I'm not sure what to expect, it freaks me out because there's not much I can control.

Joy and peace can seem so far away in the middle of uncertainty. In reality, if we just reach out to God and seek it, He'll give us what we need to push through. If you’re overwhelmed and feel like everything in the future is a big question mark right now, you aren’t alone.

Finding peace through uncertain times is more than having a positive mindset.

The Bible calls us to think about what is true and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8). Thinking positively is great but we must focus on what is true and unchanging, like our amazing and loving God. He is never going to change or take away any promises He has made to us. We can always count on Him to show up in the way He knows is best.

What kind of thoughts go through your head? Are they fear filled or faith filled?

EXERCISE: This week, try to jot down the thoughts you have throughout the day. Either write them down on paper or in the notes app on your phone. At the end of each day, read over the thoughts you have written down. What are you really focusing on?

Whenever fear of uncertainty creeps in, I always have to remind myself of God's constant promises:

  • He will always be with me. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

  • He will always work everything out for my good. (Romans 8:28)

  • He will give me His indescribable peace if I seek it. (Philippians 4:7)

  • He will always take care of me and provide me with what I need. (Philippians 4:19)

  • He is the one I can trust with everything I have. (Psalms 56:3-4)

  • He will always help me in my time of need. (Isaiah 41:13)

Don't forget to talk to God about it!

I've made the mistake of trying to carry all the weight of my fear and my problems. All it really did was leave me full of more fear and left me feeling defeated. While talking to your closest people about what you're walking through is great, it shouldn't be your first choice. Talk to God before you talk to anyone else.

I hope this brings you peace and reminds you of what will always be constant, even in the midst of any uncertainty you are facing today.
