Finding Peace During Chaos

Things changed pretty fast and I don't think any of us were prepared. I mean, who can really be prepared for something like a pandemic? Many of us are at home wondering when this will all be over and how we should feel about it. I imagine that fear is taking a stronghold of many people's minds and hearts. I'd be lying if I said fear didn't creep in sometimes with me as well. I've decided to stop letting fear take over and start truly walking with a spirit of faith and not fear. I know Who is sovereign over this entire situation, and I am going to put my trust in Him.

Stop fear in it's tracks and take it to God. Lay it all down at His feet and tell Him how you feel. The LAST thing God wants us to feel is fear! He is waiting for us to come to Him so He can take the burden of worry off us. When you take your problems to God, He promises to give us a peace that transcends ALL understanding (Philippians 4:7). Yes, even in the middle of a pandemic. Yes, even when you got laid off of your job and you don't know how you're going to make ends meet. I'm not downplaying these circumstances, I just know where true peace can lie despite our circumstances. I understand these things are scary and God does too, but that doesn't mean you can't trust Him through the storm. Once you trust God, and I mean TRULY trust God, fear cannot triumph over you.

Use this time to begin your relationship with God or take it to the next level. Now more than ever, I truly feel that God is wanting us to come closer to Him. All of the distractions that can keep us out of God's presence are gone! The hustle and bustle of life has now been forced to slow down. God is patiently waiting for us to spend time with Him.

How can I spend time with God?

While there are some basics for spending time with God, there are also tons of different ways you can experience God's presence and they're different for everyone!

Here are some ideas:

1: Prayer journaling

2: Listen to worship music! Sing along or just soak in the words. I'll even write down words to lyrics that really stand out to me. (My personal favorites: Maverick City Music, Steffany Gretzinger, Bethel Music, Elevation Worship, Hillsong UNITED, Hillsong Worship, Ecclesia)

3: Daily devotionals, the Bible app has GREAT devotionals!

4: For those of you that love meditating, download Soultime! It's a Christian meditation app and its awesome.

5: Watch sermons online! (Transformation Church, Hope City, Elevation Church)

6: Something else I also love doing is going for walks or watching sunsets while listening to worship music. I just always feel closer to God when I'm admiring His creation!

Structure your time and remember to be still. Something I realized recently was that not having a schedule caused me to not prioritize my tasks, which resulted in me not resting as much as I could have. Be wise and productive with your time, but also schedule time to relax and do things that fill your cup. Watch Netflix, call a friend, go for a walk in your neighborhood!

I pray that this blog post grounds you, calms you and reminds you of Who you can find your peace in when everything around you is chaotic.
