My Top 5 Ways to Practice Self-Care When I'm Stressed

With classes starting again and a lot of people going back to work, it can be easy to forget about making time for ourselves. As a disclaimer, I will say that these 5 things will not solve all your problems. These are just 5 things that help me de-stress and pour back into my cup when I feel drained from work, life, etc!

1. Workout

Making time to workout has always been one of my favorite forms of self care. This looks different for everyone. You can go for a walk, go to the gym, go to cycling, whatever works for you! I always finish a workout feeling so much better knowing I set aside time in my day to improve myself. Also, it gets me out of my head a little bit. My favorite way to do this recently has been RIDE! 2. Spend the Morning in Bed

How often do you set aside time in the morning to just lay in bed for a while? Don't make any plans until noon and give yourself some time to relax before you do anything that day. This may be more of a weekend thing for some people but how much better will your days be when you give yourself time to just relax in the morning? I definitely struggle making time for this but I love when I get to do it! Get some coffee or tea and just read a book in bed or watch your favorite show on Netflix.

3. Go Outside

Go somewhere you are surrounded by nature. Maybe a park or somewhere by the water (my personal favorite). Focus on your breathing and being fully present in that moment. Getting to experience nature while practicing mindfulness is heavenly! With the Texas heat this may be harder to do during the day, which is why I love doing this during sunset.

4. Have An At-Home Spa Session

Since I can't really afford to go to an actual spa, this is something I do often (lol). Grab yourself a sheet mask (my personal favorite is this Grace & Stella mask), light a candle, and put on some relaxing music. Not only is this extremely relaxing, but your skin will be all glowy and smooth after!

5. Go Do Something Alone

I know some of you are probably thinking, "Alone? No thanks..", but I promise you this is beneficial in so many ways. The more you can do things alone, the more independent you can be. You can go wherever you want to and stay for however long you want. You get to just enjoy your own company. My favorite way to do this is by going to one of my favorite coffee shops or I'll go to NadaMoo, my favorite ice cream shop in Austin. It's kind of like taking yourself out on a date! Treat yourself.
