Since my life has been so hectic lately, it has been a struggle for me to remain grateful for everything going on in my life right now. I have caught myself constantly looking forward instead of taking a moment to be thankful for what and who is around me right now. When I realized how this was making me feel so off-balanced recently, I decided to start doing more things throughout my day to help me feel more present and thankful.
1. Be still
This may be an obvious to some people, but sometimes we need a second to just be still. When we are constantly on the go, we miss the little things that can bring us joy. You can do this at any time of the day! Just slow your breath and soak in everything around you at that moment. In other words, just be mindful of every emotion, thought, and sensation at that moment. I did this the other weekend while driving by the Houston skyline, and I felt such an appreciation for something I usually take for granted.
If you have read my morning routine blog post or have been following me on Instagram for a while, you know about my Five Minute Journal. Using this journal or just writing freely in a notebook is such a great way to take some time out of your day to reflect on the good that happened that day. Even if the day was overall a bad one, there are always little things that happened that you can be thankful for. Without taking time to acknowledge those good things, it can be easy to focus on all the negative.
3. Doing 1 Thing That Brings Me Joy
Making time to do at least one thing every day that makes me feel joy and peace always leaves me feeling grateful. I feel more aligned and in tune once I set a little bit of time, even if it’s just 15 minutes, to do something that makes me feel good. Now, this could be absolutely anything. Whether it’s going to Starbucks in the morning, listening to my favorite song, or reading a self-improvement book! Setting time for yourself is so important, I always emphasize this because it is so vital to my well-being. When you feel overwhelmed from a long day, doing one thing that you genuinely enjoy can make such a difference.
I hope this blog post helps you whenever life feels like it’s coming at you twenty different ways. Even when it doesn’t feel like it, there is always something to be grateful for! If you have anything you do that helps you feel more grateful, please comment below!
