What Saved My Skin This Year!
2019 was quite the year for my skin! From the beginning of the year up until just recently, I suffered with pretty severe cystic acne. My breakouts would pop up right along my jawline and the lower section of my cheek, which is where hormonal breakouts appear. The thing with cystic acne is that the pimples don’t appear very big, but they are insanely painful. It got to the point where it literally hurt to wash my face, it was pretty bad! I have tried PLENTY of products this year trying to find something that would help my skin.
Finally, thank God, I have figured out what keeps my skin at bay. I can honestly say that my skin has not felt like this since HIGH SCHOOL. It is crazy smooth and even when I do have a pimple or two, they don’t hurt at all and they go away within a couple of days. There are 3 things that helped my skin this year: dietary changes, supplements and a couple skincare products. In this blog post I will break down what transformed my skin this year!
After doing some research and going to a holistic doctor, I realized there was some things I was eating that was causing my acne to flare up. One of these things is dairy. Many dairy products have hormones in them that can affect your body’s hormones and cause certain things to go out of wack, like your skin. Once I removed dairy completely from my diet I noticed a HUGE change in my skin’s texture. The little bumps I would get all over my cheeks began to go away. I’ll even notice now whenever I slip up and have something with dairy in it, I’ll get a small pimple or two.
Another thing I took out of my diet was gluten. I was basically gluten-free but not consistently enough because it was still causing my skin problems. Consuming gluten may not affect everyone the same like dairy can, but my body is relatively sensitive to gluten so it affects my body negatively. Whenever I eat gluten, it results in inflammation which usually leads to acne.
I also began taking supplements this year to help with my skin. 2 supplements I began taking are turmeric and fish oil. Turmeric is a natural antioxidant which makes it great for the skin. It is an anti-inflammatory, so it helps with the redness and swelling of acne when it occurs. Fish oil is a great supplement for preventing acne as well because it helps the skin manage oil production, reduce inflammation and maintain moisture!
1: NOX Serum
There are a couple of products that I will mention but one REALLY changed the game for me. Like seriously, this stuff is gold. I’ve mentioned the product before in my “How I Cleared My Skin In a Week” blog post. The #1 product that I saw the most results from this year was the NOX serum. I’m not going to lie guys, this stuff is expensive but I wouldn’t recommend it if I did not stand by it 100%. While making dietary changes and taking supplements helped my skin, this serum seriously took it to the next level when I started using it daily in November.
The NOX serum is formulated with CBD and Vitamins C & E. It’s actually the world’s only hemp-infused, nitric oxide rejuvenation system. Nitric oxide allows your body to naturally detoxify itself and if your body’s level of this is low it is quite impossible for your skin to naturally purify and revive itself. I know the price may take you back a little but if you are currently getting facials, microdermabrasion or even taking accutane, the price basically comes out to the same. The serum lasts me about 1-2 months when I use it day and night. You can still get results (just not the exact same results) using it less than that though! In my “How I Cleared My Skin In a Week” blog post, I used this serum only once and still got great results.
2: Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment
I love using this acne treatment whenever I do get a pimple or two on my face! It has great ingredients like sulfur, BHAs and zinc oxide that exfoliate dead skin cells, unclog pores, reduce redness and the appearance of acne. While I do love this treatment I have noticed that I cannot use it for too many consecutive days or else it does irritate my skin a bit. This stuff is pretty strong but it works well!
To give you guys more of an idea of what my skin situation was earlier this year, I'm going to include pictures below. The first picture is from September and this was around the time that I was beginning to take supplements and make changes in my diet. The second picture is from November, right before I started using the NOX serum. The third picture was taken today, a month after using NOX and about 2 months after making dietary changes and taking supplements!
