Winning the Battle Against Insecurities

Honestly, my self-confidence went a bit downhill as of recently. Throughout the stay-at-home order I gained about 5 pounds which definitely was not the best feeling ever. I know this year has taken everyone out of their usual routines and I'm not the only one feeling less than confident.

I'm not going to sit here and act like I have all the answers, but I am walking through this with you as well. I learned what helps me when I feel insecurities creeping in and I wanted to share it with you so we can win the battle against insecurities together!

How Your Beauty is Perceived is NOT Equivalent To Your Value

I think insecurities are such a big struggle for so many of us because culture has led us to believe that the way our beauty is perceived by others and/or ourselves is equivalent to our value. This couldn't be farther from the truth, but it's been engrained into our minds that it feels like it's reality. We have the same value no matter how we view ourselves on any given day. Our self-worth is 100% dependent on who God says we are.

God created us in his image and said, "It is good." Not, "After they have abs, it is good" or "Once they have an hourglass figure, it is good".

No matter what you think you look like today, you are loved and you are beautiful.

Sometimes we can get so deep into our insecurities that we forget who created us. God doesn't make mistakes! The same God who created sunsets, the stars and everything else you think is beautiful, created you as well! 1 Peter 3:3-4 says, "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, rather it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." Stop allowing society to dictate what beauty is and what it looks like, when God has a completely different definition. I know it's super cheesy saying beauty comes from the inside, but it's the Truth!

If you wouldn't talk to your friend that way, don't talk to yourself that way!

One of the best things I learned was how important self-talk is. Our words are SO POWERFUL! (Proverbs 18:21). Fill your mind with kind words that you'd tell a friend, not ugly and harsh words you'd never say to anyone else. Before you talk down on yourself, think about what you'd tell a friend if they came to you feeling insecure about the very same thing. This is definitely easier said then done, but it is life changing for your emotional, mental and spiritual health. This will require you to be more present and aware of your ongoing thoughts!

The more you tell yourself something, the more you'll believe it. What words are you believing?

Whatever you may be feeling insecure about today, I pray that this post reminds you of where true value and beauty comes from. It's normal to have insecurities and it's nothing you should shame yourself for! It's time for us to win the battle, we're not going to let insecurities run our lives. 🙌🏼

I did an IG post on insecurities last week and everyone commented what they would tell their friend who was feeling insecure! Click the picture below to read.
